* over twenty new biographies * new entries on women, writers, artists, architects and scientists * revised bibliographic guide * a brand new overview of the latest books and articles.

User-friendly and easy to follow, the book is set out in sections and chronologically examines:

* political and military events * religious changes and cultural developments * foreign policy * trade and colonies * relations with Scotland and Ireland

With sections also presenting lists of the major offices of state, and a glossary of constitutional, political and religious terms, this is a major reference resource from which students of this historical period will benefit immensely.
