The following route emphasizes the trees of these areas, but the map shows some of the gardens as well: Enter from south via the South Gate or main entrance of the Botanical Garden, then follow the walkway north passing by the hothouse, peony garden, lilac garden and yulun magnolia garden until you join the road to the Reclining Buddha Temple. Visit successive courtyards of halls, then exit the northwest gate to a road that bends west toward the Cherry Vale. Walk by remnants of former temples, take wooden walkway through Metasquoia grove, then continue on main trail as far as "Pine on Rock."
