Same meaning, but different words.In English, there are words that express the same meaning, but should be used with care.
Examples:
(a) Are there some questions? Yes, I have some questions.But Mary does not have some questions.Correct form: (Are there any questions? Yes, I have some questions.But Mary does not have any questions.""Any"" is used for questioning and negatively—indicative statements.).
(b) Let me borrow you a textbook.But may I loan a pencil from you? Correct form: (Let me loan you a textbook.But may I borrow a pencil from you? If the material moves away from the speaker, ""loan"" is used.If it moves towards the speaker, ""borrow"" is used.).
(c) Please go home immediately.I will be waiting for you in the living room.Correct form: if the speaker is presently staying at home, then we should write (Please come home immediately… ).If the speaker is presently staying elsewhere, then the original sentence is correct.
(d) Let us keep in our hearts that numerous disaster victims' surviving relatives are mind—broken.Correct form: (…keep in our minds that…are heart—broken.).""Heart"" is associated with emotion, whereas ""mind"" is associated with ""rationale"".
* Tense.Except in unusual situations, it is advisable to use consistent tenses in a paragraph.
Examples:
(a) Consider Eq.(3) that governs charge—carrier concentrations in the n—type segment.Electrons travel westbound by diffusion.But their movement was opposed by the drift force.Correct form: (…their movement is…).
