A double-decker is a bus for mass transportation used in many cities ofBritain, especially in London. It is a bus with two storeys or decks, hence thename double-decker. Nowadays, it is commonly found in other cities, suchas New York City, as a bus for tourism. It is noted that in recent years doubledecker buses have lately become a sight in many Chinese cities such as Beijing.
They are used both for public transportation and tourism.
A bendy-bus, also known as bending bus or stretch bus, is a bus with twopermanent sections joined by a pivoting joint. This type of vehicle is commonlycalled "articulated vehicle" with a single deck used for public transportation.
It is a reference to the common practice of subway passengers who stand on theright hand side on an escalator. In Britain, motor vehicles are operated on theleft hand side of the road. When there are multiple lanes, the slow vehicles aresupposed to stay on the extreme left lane, leaving the faster ones to pass on theright lanes. While in the tube or the subway, passengers who enter or exit thesubway will take escalators. As a custom, passengers will stand on the right handside of the escalator, leaving the left side open for those who are in a hurry to pass.
This is what the speaker refers to as "the opposite of Britain's road traffic system."
A black cab is a common name for the taxis in London since all the taxivehicles are painted in black, hence the name.
Pub is a short form for "public house" to mean a bar where alcoholicbeverages are offered. So, a London pub is a bar in London.
