Shot peening processing can not only significantly improve the fatigue strength of parts,but also can improve the corrosion resistance of parts.For example, aluminum andmagnesium alloy are generally resistant to seawater corrosion, but after shot peening, saltwater corrosion resistance ability can be improved one hundred times.
In addition, the shot peening process can also:
a.Improve the fatigue strength of plating parts.After plating the surface of steel parts,it is easy to produce residual tensile stress and reduce fatigue strength.So before or beforeand after the plating, shot peening can further improve the fatigue strength and corrosionresistance of the parts.
b.Remove harmful effects of residual tensile stress, cracks or grain boundary corrosionof the electrolytic, chemical milling, grinding machining parts, and produce residualcompressive stress.
c.Improve the fatigue strength of the steel by carburizing, nitriding or high—temperature heat treatment, reduce the chances of brittle fracture.The shot peeningcarburizes gear, which not only causes surface stress and improves surface hardness, butalso promotes the transformation of retained austenite in the surface layer.According totests, fatigue life of cyanide gear can be increased 12 times after shot peening.
