Customer Reviews 1.Good, but I miss Abby's fifth-grade days, December 24, 2004 ByAmazon Girl Sixth-grader Abby is starting to get interested in boys. She's confused when she sees girls in her grade trying to impress boys, and wonders what the big deal is. Then, she meets Simon, a seventh-grade star saxophonist with bright blue eyes, and she falls for him. Problem is, Simon hardly knows Abby exists. Abby agrees to help out at rehearsals for the Jazz Tones, the musical group at school that Simon and Abby's friend Natalie are both in. Meanwhile, Abby's made a new friend. Sophia is very nice, but very, very shy. She's also a fantastic artist. However, Sophia seems intimidated by Abby's best friend, the enthusiastic, outgoing Hannah. Abby worries that she won't be able to confide in Hannah about Simon. Hannah tries not to get crushes on boys; she doesn't want to turn into of those girls who changes themself for a boy. I liked the general plotline of this story, but I did not like to see the changes in Abby's friend, Natalie. Natalie is no longer a budding chemist who wears rumpled clothes and enjoys fantasy novels. She is now an aspiring clarinetist with a sophisticated attitude and clothes that Abby describes as "big city." I don't like how so many of Abby's friends go through personality changes over the course of the series. Bethany goes from being Brianna's personal cheerleader to being an independent, friendly girl. Jessica, Abby's former best friend, went from an astronomy-loving overall-wearer to a miniskirt-wearing girl who enjoys talking about boys and going to dance parties. I wish Anne Mazer wouldn't change the personalities of so many characters when they were fine the way they were originally. I preferred the books when Abby was in fifth grade, and all the characters stayed the same. 2.The best series ever, don't you think?, February 20, 2005 A Kid's Review I liked the I LOVE ABBY HAYES! reviewer. We need a positive review on the most realistic series, right? Ok, I don't have any crushes and I hate crushes they're gross, but for the person switching to Madison Finn...puh-lease! I saw that the next book is not about crushes, so you're all safe.
